About Us

Betel cultivation is a vital part of Sri Lanka’s agricultural economy, providing income to thousands of farming families. Despite its economic significance, many betel farmers lack proper knowledge of nutritional management and soil conservation practices, leading to lower yields and inconsistent leaf quality.

While betel is grown in several districts, including Kurunegala, Gampaha, Kegalle, Kalutara, Colombo, Ratnapura, Matara, and Galle, many plantations fail to reach their full production potential due to improper soil management, inefficient fertilizer use, and outdated farming techniques.

Some farmers mistakenly believe that betel does not require regular fertilization, while others apply fertilizers inconsistently, expecting immediate improvements in yield.

This knowledge gap results in low productivity, soil degradation, and poor-quality leaves , which ultimately affect market value and export potential.

In order to increase the productivity and long persistency of the betel, farmers should have a sound idea about the nutrient requirements of betel in each and every growth stage.
